Breaking news Bob Rae has abandoned his bid for leadership of the Liberal Party. Michael Ignatief will become the Liberal’s new leader pending a brief consultation of the Partiy Leadership. Ignatief will likely be installed as the leader by December 17.
This is a serious blow to The Coalition, Ignatief has already committed to waiting for the Conservatives to release their budget before deciding to pursue a vote of non- confidence in Harper's Government. If such a vote were to occur it is more likely that we will see elections rather than Coalition Leadership, Ignatief, has broad support in Ontario and the Liberals are likely to capitalize on the Conservative Party's recent fall from grace in Quebec. With this latest move, the chances of the Conservatives receiving a majority under Harper are severely diminished.
Ignatief is generally a fiscal conservative, and has been accused in the past of being a closet Conservative. His economic leadership will likely reflect more toward Harper's school of Austrian economics, and less towards the Keynesian School of economics reflected by The Coalition; meaning a more centrist approach. This is good news for Canada, but not good news to Westerners committed to separation.
Recent events have polarized people and demonstrated once again the divisions that exist in this country beneath the surface. Once the Liberal Party re-establishes its hold over Ontario, and Canada, I expect the West to suffer as it has under Chretien and Trudeau. Ignatief is a strong Federalist, and he will not share power with the Provinces. Essentially, we are back to square one; 2006. I fully expect complacency to re-assert itself in the West with the usual grumbling which will amount to nothing. We will continue to be governed according to a social liberal agenda and our institutions and people will continue to deteriorate as can be expected when social engineers attempt to replace the wisdom that has guided our people for centuries with their politically correct claptrap dreamed up by atheist pseudo scientists who harbor a secret hatred for God fearing people, white men and capitalists, in that order.
I think Westerners are the most unique of people, we are generally hard working, independent, respectful people who believe passionately in personal accountability. Generally, we don't believe in big government, instead preferring to rely on our neighbors, our church and our communities when we find ourselves in difficulty. We don't despise government, we recognize a need for it but the ideal government would not sacrifice liberty for security, nor punish people with excessive taxation for being industrius. Our value systems are a heritage of the frontier spirit that drove our ancestors to migrate west. We are unique in that even in our urban centers we still have adherents to our unique Western perspective; this fact separates us from other regions of this country where urbanites have for the most part long since abandoned the values to which we still cling. Likely, Urban Westerners still retain our uniqueness due to family connections; family members who still make a living from the land. We are reminded of our roots when we return home for the holidays, go to the old church for the Christmas Eve Service or step outside to stare up at a clear night sky with bright starts overhead.
Many of us plan to visit our families over the coming holidays, some out in the country some now in retirement homes or apartments, having long since left the old homestead behind. I would ask you to reflect on the simple life and the spirit that our parents and grandparents lived, to establish themselves in this land. Many of our older relatives have lived their lives with little to no representation in Ottawa and hold a bitter resentment towards the Federal Government from long ago injustices that caused suffering and worse a sense of powerlessness over their own destiny. Look well my friends, this will be us in 20-30 years and our children further on down the road. Consider this, because fate has dealt us this hand but only we as individuals can decide how we intend to play it. Our choices are clear; anti up and continue with our cause for Western Separation or Fold and take the path of least resistance. Is their still enough Frontier Spirit left in us to continue on with this thing?
